Company Overview

Via Transportation, was founded in 2012 by Daniel Ramot and Oren Shoval. Their mission was clear: to create magical conversations between businesses and their audiences through innovative transportation solutions.

In September 2013, Via launched a ridesharing service in the Upper East Side of New York City.
Inspired by their experience with shared taxis (Sherut) in Israel, they expanded the service to cover all of Manhattan by October 2015. Via continued its expansion to cities like Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn.

Via partnered with Curb, allowing users to hail a yellow taxi for a shared ride in certain areas of Manhattan.

Via’s technology is now used by cities, transportation authorities, government entities, school districts, universities, and private organizations worldwide. Notable partnerships include Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) in Berlin, King County Metro in Seattle, and Transport for London.

In December 2021, Via filed for an initial public offering, highlighting its growth and impact.

In a strategic move, Via discontinued its direct-to-consumer rideshare operations in December 2021. The company shifted its focus to public transport operations, emphasizing efficiency and equity.

Via’s networks experienced a 67% increase in ridership between 2021 and 2022 due to expansions and new launches. Their commitment to resilient cities and equitable transit systems remains unwavering.
